Ornate Aesthetic movement sterling bangle

Dimensions:  1 inch wide; oval bangle will comfortably fit a wrist that is 6.5 to 7.75 inches in diameter; interior diameter from hinge to clasp is 2 and 3/8 inches, or more specificially, 6 cm across. 

Condition: excellent, no dents or damage; back is undecorated; bangle can be polished to a shiny finish, if desired.  I have left the patina as found.

Description:  Distinctive sterling silver bangle decorated with a stork, birds, cattails and reeds.  A classic example of the aesthetic movement.  Dutch in origin.  (hallmarks on tongue of clasp)

About the aesthetic movement:

In the mid 1850's,  the US and European signed treaties with Japan.  This opened up the East to travelers and a passion for all things Japanese and Oriental followed.   This was the beginning of the Aesthetic movement in jewelry and art.
