Description:  Sterling silver bangle decorated with the Neillo technique that was used primarily by the Russians and French in the late 19th century.   An ancient technique, it was revived by a German jeweler living in Paris in the early 19th century.  The design caught on later with the popularity of neo-Renaissance style jewelry.   This technique requires the jeweler to engrave a design into a silver item, then, the recesses are filled in with an alloy of silver, copper, lead and sulphur, which is black in color.  The result is striking, as you can see from this bangle.  Sometimes, rose gold is also added for contrast.
