Description: Substantial Victorian sterling silver bangle accented with green and rose gold. In the center is a rose gold bird in flight and on either side, is a green frog!! Around the green gold frogs are bamboo's, cattails and other classic fauna motifs from the Aesthetic movement. Note how one of the top balls has been left off so that one's eye travels up to the top of the bamboo; just as the frog's eyes are doing!
The back is as beautifully decorated as the front with a basket weave design. Both the clasp and the hinge have ornate chase work on them. A fabulous, perhaps one of a kind, piece!
Info about the Aesthetic movement:
In the mid 1850's, the US and European signed treaties with Japan. This opened up the East to travelers and a passion for all things Japanese and Oriental followed. This was the beginning of the Aesthetic movement in jewelry and art.
