Georgian Halley's comet brooch

Dimensions:  1 and 3/8 inch long; at widest point, brooch is 1/2 inch in diameter;
more precisely, in centimeters: 3.4 cm long and 1.2 cm wide

Description:  Georgian rose gold brooch designed to commemorate the return of Halley's comet in 1835.  The brooch is decorated with almandine garnets. 
In 1757, the English astronomer Edmond Halley (1656-1742) identified a re-occuring comet.  Halley's comet appears every 75-76 years and will next appear in 2062.
