Description:  This Victorian shell cameo is based on an Italian fresco discovered in Pompeii in 1759. Set in a substantial 18kt. gold frame, the carving depicts a woman selling cupids as love tokens. The two young maidens on the left are selecting the cupid which they think help them find love. This is a very desirable and hard to find carving. On the back of the frame is a hook for a watch or a pendant.
