Description:  Victorian shell cameo of Medusa set in 9kt. yellow gold setting.

A very nice depiction of the mythological Medusa.

The sadness evident on her face; her curls turning into serpents as the tail of one wraps itself around her neck.

Medusa was a beautiful young maiden who so enraged the goddess Athene that she transformed Medusa's hair to serpents and made her face so terrible to behold that the mere sight of it would turn a man to stone.
