Description: These pretty Victorian 14kt. gold coral earrings are light weight and easy to wear. Note also the wonderful safety hook on the back. In ancient China, coral jewelry was worn to show wealth and social status. During the Roman era, it was believed that coral could cure wounds made by snakes and scorpions and diagnose diseases by changing color. In the Victorian era, coral was given as a gift of protection. It was believed that coral would protect the wearer from harm. It was a popular gift to newborns.
