Description:   Substantial 18kt. gold ring with a very rare intaglio carving of the English astronomer Edmond Halley (1656-1742) and the comet that was named after him. Halley's comet appears every 76 years and will next appear in 2062.
This Georgian intaglio was carved in the mid 1700's.  It has been set into a heavy, hand made 18kt. setting, which is an exact replica of a Georgian ring that I have in my personal collection.   I purchased this rare intaglio carving from a private collector in Europe.   His collection of intaglio carvings is among the the finest in the US and Europe. I was fortunate to be able to purchase two intaglios from his collection.
The 18kt. gold setting was hand made by one of London's foremost jewelers.
The result of this careful attention to detail is a stunning ring which has a historically important intaglio carving.
