Description: It is rare to find mourning jewelry
which depicts a man grieving. This Georgian mourning
brooch depicts a father standing next to a gold gilded tomb
mourning his beloved son. On the back is the inscription,
"J. W. Hooker ob 16 June 1786 at 5 years. The workmanship
on this brooch is of the finest quality.
Surrounding the sepia mourning miniature is cobalt blue and
white enamel; white symbolizing the loss of a child and cobalt
blue was usually worn only by members of the nobility. The
stark sepia miniature is comprised of hair work and paint on
ivory. The ornate tomb is decorated with gold and tiny
seed pearls. The setting is rose gold.
