Description: European
(probably Dutch) portrait miniature with hair work reverse. The
miniature depicts a middle aged gentlemen, with pale blue eyes and hair that
is swept to the left; almost as if the wind has blown his hair and he has yet
to comb it back in place.
On the back, is a wisp of brown hair, adorned with beautiful gold sheaths of
wheat, pearls and gold wire work. The workmanship is very fine and the
pale pink background adds to the beauty of the piece. This was most
likely a wedding gift or betrothal gift to the bride to be. Sheaths of
wheat symbolized fertility and abundance.
The frame is 14kt. gold.
