Description: A most unusual brooch featuring a snake made out of pearls with a nicely detailed rose gold head. There are two compartments inside the coils of the snake that contain hair work. One compartment (lower) has gold wire on top of the hair. Pearls symbolized purity, so I think this was most like a mourning brooch for two children or two unmarried young girls. The snake symbolized eternal life. Setting is rose gold, most likely 9kt. but could be 15kt. To see other images of this item, please click here: photo1 and photo2
