Description: English School portrait miniature in
watercolor on ivory of a blonde-haired young gentleman.
He's quite handsome with his full lips and lovely, kind eyes.
The back contains his braided hair and gold entwined initials
over foil backed opalescent glass. A beautiful miniature of fine
quality set in a gold frame. This miniature is attributed
to William Thomson (1771/3-1845). Thomson was born in
Savannah, Georgia , the son of a Government official who lost
his post during the rebellion and who retired to England on a
small pension. William had to earn a living at an early
age and painted portraits in London. He exhibited at the R.A., B.I., and S.B.A. His family lived in Edinburgh where
he returned in 1812. He was offered a knighthood
which he declined. To see other images of this item,
