Wonderful Art Deco Compact!

Reference #:  9263

Status: sold

Dimensions: 2.25 inches by 3.25 inches

Condition: excellent, no damage or restoration; powder puff in lower left compartment is original; powder puff in upper right compartment is not original.  Compact and interior compartments close firmly and stay closed.  I think the compact is coin silver but am not sure.  It is heavy which makes me think it is not silver plate.  There is a makers mark but no silver mark so I am selling it as metal unknown to err on the side of caution.

Year:  dated 9 January 1929

Price: sold

Description:  What a great compact AND a great cat collectible!  The outside is decorated with a cat...front and back.  The inside of this Austrian compact is engraved in German and reads, "Mayoral Ball,  Center City", 9 January 1929".  This is the world famous, Viennese Ball which takes place every year shortly after the New Year.  I feel certain that this compact was a gift of love to commemorate attending the ball.
