Item: Exceptional hair art work on ivory
Reference #: 2379
Status: sold
Dimensions: 6 inches square
Condition: excellent
Year: dated 1832
Description: the earliest French hair art commemorated the life of the person who had died instead of using symbols such as the tomb, etc.. Oftentimes the deceased life was depicted in the memorial picture--such as was done in this one. This exceptional hair art is dated 1832 and signed "c.h." You can see the signature and date in the 4:00 position on the picture. The detail is almost unbelievable. Note the two ducks in the pond, the shading of the trees...wonderful workmanship.
