Description: I feel confident in saying that this is a one of a kind piece. The angel of death, with his scythe, is carrying a little baby off to heaven. This is wonderful! The ivory carving is mounted in a gold gilt frame. The carving is not on a flat piece of ivory but rather, the ivory piece is curved which makes the carving stand out even more. Please take a look at the additional photos to see how wonderful this piece is! (I darkened the contrast so you could see the detail better. The bright light of the scanner washes out detail in pieces like this.) 4768a.jpg I would like to note that I do not think this was always a plaque. I think this ivory piece probably was a part to a cane or something and during the late Victorian period was placed in this nice Victorian gilt frame.
