Description: From a private collection of portrait miniatures, I recently purchased two hair art pictures which have the same quality hairwork as is found in mourning jewelry. This is one of the pieces. The picture is on ivory and has both hairwork and sepia painting. The scene that is depicted is unique. The dog (represents fidelity and loyalty) guarding the tomb is looking at a spirit or angel who is coming out of the tomb holding a torch with the eternal flame in his hand. Note how the cedar tree on the left, with ivy climbing up its trunk, leans over in a weeping fashion towards the tomb. To see other views: 6003.jpg There is a flaming torch in his hand but you can't see it in this photo. The glass covering this picture is highly curved and that makes it difficult to get a really good close up.
