Description: This piece commemorates the death of a nobleman who was a victim of the infamous French guillotine during the Revolution. I have never before been able to find a piece with such important historical significance. The portrait miniature of the nobleman is surrounded by superb hair work and the important information about the man is written on the back. Written on the back in French is, "Pierre Theiry, attorney, married in the Quarter of Croix Russe in Lyon. He married Jean Marie Gremaud in 1775. He was a victim of the terror and died on 8 or 22 December 1793." It is extraordinary that so much information is provided about the victim, including his vocation, where he was married and to whom.
