Item: Rare Halley's comet brooch with hairwork

Dimensions: size of brooch w/o pin stem is 1 and 1/4 inch long; with pin stem it is 1 and 7/8 inch long; "comet" part is 3/4 inch wide

Condition: near mint to mint and all original; the scanner has made it look like some of the black border is missing but it is not!

Year: close to 1834

Description: This piece is rare from two stand points. It is unique as a piece of memorial jewelry AND it is a very unique Halley's comet commemorative brooch. This 18kt. (tested) Halley's comet brooch has hairwork in the center AND has a locket back! The glass covering both the back and the front has a black, reverse painted border. (The black border is painted on the inside of the glass on both the back and the front.) It looks like enamel work but it is not.
