Description:  The sepia painting on this brooch is very fine quality and the paste stones surrounding the painting are absolutely beautiful!  The contrast between the bright, shiny paste and the somber sepia tones makes this a striking piece.  The frame is 9kt. rose gold.  Written on the top, in French, "La Verite me Dirige".  Here is a close up:  http://www.mourningjewelrymuseum.com/mourning_jewelry/mourning_jewelry_images/6597b.jpg

Some historical notes:  During the French Revolution many nobles and artisans emigrated to England to escape the guillotine.  This piece (as well as brooch #6734) was most likely created by a French artist living in England for a fellow French immigrant. These pieces are highly sought after and very hard to find.  One can be sure that the frame is English due to the shape of the frame and its gold content (9kt).  Also, the cut of the paste stone is in an English style.  French paste was created and cut differently.
